EXAMS: WHAT TO KNOW

Understand what Net8 does and how communications occur between
clients and Oracle database servers. Know how Net8 handles connections, data
transmission, termination and exception handling. Be able to describe its
protocol stack on both client and server sides.
Know the methods of name resolution and the details of how to
implement each. What are the advantages and drawbacks of each?
Understand the purposes and uses of the Multithreaded Server
(MTS). Know when to use it, and how to configure it. Know what its components
are and how they work. Know what you must configure on the client side to
enable load balancing and failover. Be able to monitor and tune MTS.
Understand the functions and architecture of the Connection
Manager. Know how it is similar to and different from MTS. Describe the setup
and parameters of Connection Manager. Be able to monitor and tune it.
Know how to configure and manage an Oracle Names server and
know how this name resolution method differs from the others.
Understand the basic features and functions of the Advanced
Security Option (ASO), and how to implement them through required parameters on
clients and server.
Know the basic parameters and their usage in the files:
tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora, names.ora, and cman.ora. Know
MTS-specific parameters that go in the database initialization file,
init.ora.
Know how to use the utilities: lsnrctl,
namesctl, and cmctl. Also know the key commands each supports and
when to use them.
Be able to use the Net8 Assistant. You will encounter
questions pertaining to specific features and functions of the Net8
Assistant.
