SYNOPSIS
Cisco’s Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices (ICND) exam 640-811 is part two of two of the two-exam option to the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification. The two-exam route is the less popular route typically traveled by Cisco Academy students only. This exam is an entry level exam for IT professionals who have the knowledge and skills necessary to select, connect, configure, and troubleshoot the various Cisco networking devices. There is no specific prerequisite for this exam.

Cisco does not publish the pass score for this exam, which consists of multiple-choice and drag-and-drop questions as well as possibly a few simulations. There are between 55 and 65 questions and the exam lasts 60 minutes.

The general topics covered by this exam include: Planning and Design, Implementation and Operations, Troubleshooting and Technology. More specific topics include:
  • Extending Switched Networks with VLANS
  • Determining IP Routes
  • Managing IP traffic with Access Lists
  • Establishing Pont-to-Point connections
  • Frame Relay Connections

I studied for months too with Transcender and Boson Exsim. My problem was the practice exam's questions were all nice and short but the real questions were long. Too long for the number of troubleshooting questions they had on my test. See, I know my subnetting but I'm a slow reader. I had to give up my simulator question as well. I was down to 20 seconds for my last question. You better be a fast reader if you plan to take the test. I only got 755. I am taking it again on Nov. 5.

Pass, my score 983, passing score 849. Plenty of time left over, only used up 40 minutes. 42 questions, 1 simulation, very easy, cdp neighbors, telnet, no shutdown. Very little subnetting. 640-821 was actually harder.

Scored 951 out of 1000.For those people that work on cisco routers and switches on a regular basis should have no problem with the test. I found that the test was pretty challenging for someone that doesn't work with Cisco routers and switches should practice with actual devices or simulators and study and understand how they work.Read the questions carefully.Know RIP,OSPF,EIGRP and subnetting. The test consisted of a lot of troubleshooting questions.Know VLANS and VTP and Spanning Tree and Access Lists and Frame Relay and be familiar with NAT and ISDN and how to recognize and troubleshoot it.Had one sumulation on test. Used Wendell Odoms Book and Boson.

I found the test to be pretty superficial; it didn't get into a lot of detail about stuff like dialer maps and NAT configuration. Basically the test just ensured that you had a basic understanding of networking. I was worried about the 60 minute time limit, but I finished with 20 to spare. Used Cisco's CCNA 3& 4 book, Boson simulator, and Visualizer.

Before you write the exam, be sure that you can concentrate under pressure. During the exam, the timer will be counting down from 60 minutes. Focus on the questions and less on the seconds slipping away.

If you work with routers hands-on every day this will be easy. If not, I suggest Lammle's CCNA book, then grind though the Odom ICND book, which is pretty comprehensive but hard to read. Use Celtic Rover to see how you are doing. The more recent Cisco exams I take the less of a fan of test banks I become. And some hands-on labs won't hurt a bit.

I'm a Windows sysadmin (MCSE x 5 and 7 years experience) in a network with NOS and infrastructure split up. I am not allowed to touch our infrastructure, so I have no practical experience with the IOS. I've failed this exam twice now. (Until today, I'd never failed any exam twice, and I've taken 30+ IT exams.) If you work on Cisco regularly, this shouldn't be hard. If you're doing this from a book and simulations, take your time and really study. This is not an easy exam unless you're thoroughly prepared. Know subnetting cold or you will run out of time.

I got 42 question to do in 60 mins - only 3 simulators but LOTS of subnetting questions. Make sure you feel 100% sure that you can subnet quickly. Good luck!

I have been reading and doing hands-on labs for over 4 months now preparing for one h**l of a test. And what happened? It was easier than easy, in my opinion.

Study the CCNA ICND Exam Certification Guide and its not to tough. The only problem I encountered was with the router simulator. They give you 3 routers to troubleshoot, once I connected to the first router and corrected the config there, I was unable to disconnect from it and go on to the next! I tried everything but nothing worked. I had no choice but to continue to the next question! My test was 42 questions and they give you 60 minutes. No time to waste trying to close hyperterminal sessions that won't close! Passing score is 849

Untitled Document > Persistent Group Chat: An Approach for More Profitable Team Communications : Unlike email, instant messages (IMs) do not allow group communication; nor do they persist -- you can't hold on to them for as long as you wish. Persistent group chat, however, allows businesses to organize persistent dialogue around business-critical topics, and keep them for easy retrieval later.
