Microsoft’s exam 70-299, “Implementing and Administering Security for a Microsoft Windows Server
2003 Network" is a core or elective requirement for the MCSE (Microsoft
Certified Systems Engineer) on Microsoft Windows 2003, MCSE (Microsoft
Certified Systems Engineer):Security on Microsoft Windows 2003, MCSA (Microsoft Certified Systems
Administrator): Security on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or MCSA (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator)
on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 certifications.
It is designed for candidates who operate in medium to very large computing
environments that use the Windows Server 2003 network operating system. There is no specific prerequisite
for this exam but Microsoft recommends that candidates have a minimum of 6 to 12 months of experience designing
in the type of environment described.
As well, Microsoft says that a candidate should have at least 6 to 12 months of experience administering client and network operating systems in environments that have the following characteristics:
250 to 5,000 or more users
Three or more physical locations
Three or more domain controllers
Network services and resources such as messaging, database, file and print,
proxy server, firewall, public key infrastructure (PKI), Internet, intranet,
remote access, and client computer management
Connectivity requirements such as connecting branch offices and individual
users in remote locations to the corporate network and connecting corporate
networks to the Internet
Beginning with the release of the Microsoft Windows Server 2003–related exams,Microsoft will provide numerical scores on exams. By the end of September 2003, most exams will have the new score report format, which includes this numerical score. The new scale requires a minimum passing score of 700 on all exams. The maximum score on the exams will vary depending on the complexity of the skills being measured
Note that Microsoft does not document the format of a particular exam. However, Microsoft exams might include adaptive testing technology and simulation items.

If you have done 70-298 first, it´s easy. If you have done MSCE core exams as well, it more of the same, in a light version.
Otherwise, it´s tougher than you think.

The exam requires alot of reading but the answers are very easy to spot because wrong answers were not even an option for a solution in the situation presented by the question. To me, the drag and drops were the trickiest of all the questions.

This is the first microsoft test I've taken that i didn't feel good about when i clicked the end exam button. I was surprised to get a 914 on it. There were no sims, alot on PKI, ipsec. I was surprised that my version was kinda light on WSUS. Like most microsoft exams you can weed out 2 of the choices with concept knowledge of the subject and the remaining two are between specifics. Not an easy exam by any means but it was only 30 questions and some of them were kind of obscure and not covered in the MS Press book I studied. Again hands on experience really helped on 4 or so questions.

Only 30 questions, nothing too much in depth. IPSec, PKI and Certificates, some SUS questions and GPO with some group nesting. A few pick 3 and some auditing questions as well. Also a few on script signing. A wide range from all categories. I used the Sybex book and CBT training videos. With some hands on experience this is manageable Good luck!!

I under estimated this exam the first time around. Know IPSEC and PKI. I also had a decent amount of SUS questions. Not to many security group questions but quickly brush over group nesting to be safe. Most of my questions were on IPSEC, PKI and CAs. Study and you'll do fine. I still think it's easier than 291 was. I just acheived my MCSA with this exam. Three more before I am an MCSE.

I think that this exam is very challenging. Wide range of topics that easily hinder those without hands on experience. Know IPSec, SSL, DMZ, Trust and Global/Universal Group thoroughly! PKI topics too. There are not that many questions on this exam so you can't afford to get many wrong answers. I passed today with a high score. I studied from multiple sources.

It took me 20 minutes yesterday to complete this exam with an 865. I *DID* cram for 14 hours prior to taking it. But that's my style of study. I do well under pressure.

I took this exam twice. Both times there were only 30 questions. The first time I barely failed (by 31 points) The second time I barely passed (by 49 points). The wierd thing is that I studied very extensively after the first time and It seemed just as hard if not harder. All the other MCSE tests seemed easy compared to this one. Don't underestimate it!

30 questions only, only IPSEC covered in much depth. Brush up group policy and group nesting options in the various domain functional levels. I've just finished CCSP so IPSEC was a breeze. MCSA +Security now... 70-293 next.

First, you have to prepare the core exame hard then this test will be easy for you. But this test should have more pratical troubleshooting and set up questions. - AW
