SYNOPSIS MCDBAvs MCSE 2003vs
Microsoft’s exam 70-293, Planning and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure, is a core networking system requirement for the MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 certification. It is designed for IT professionals who work in a medium to large scale business environment and have at least 12 months experience as a system administrator. The official domains of this exam are:
Planning and Implementing Server Roles and Server Security
Planning, Implementing, and Maintaining a Network Infrastructure
Planning, Implementing, and Maintaining Routing and Remote Access
Planning, Implementing, and Maintaining Server Availability
Planning and Maintaining Network Security
Planning, Implementing, and Maintaining Security Infrastructure
Within these domains, Microsoft might ask realistic and complex simulation questions involving the administration of Microsoft windows and its use in a medium tolarge scale environment, as well as complex scenarios involving the planning of a network infrastructure. However, there is no set exact format, as the exam tends to change with time. The exam contains multiple choice, drag and drop, multiple answer, and simulation based questions with a total somewhere between 45 and 70. In order to pass the exam, you must achieve a 700 out of 1000.

And I thought 291 was hard!! I agree with most of the comments -- simulations deal with things you won't see on a daily basis. 50 questions, 5 sims - 2 on CA, 1 on server hardening, 2 on GPOs. Used TestKing for the multiple choice but nothing short of exposure can really prepare you for the sims. 822 in about 90 minutes.

5th exam in my journey towards my MCSE and that was the hardest so far. Questions came from all over and the exam software's "weirdness" setting must have been maxed up.
PKI, Clustering, DNS, GPO's all hammered. Questions were very wordy and had to be read a couple of times before the penny dropped.
Hard but not too bad

Fourth test of my MCSE journey. In a way, harder than 70-291 because it covers stuff you probably don't mess with on a day to day basis in most places like you do with the 70-291 material but on the other hand easier because they don't go as in depth. Passed on the first try. Got around 830 or so in under twenty minutes of actual testing time. Next up is AD.
Passed the first try as usual

Question 43
Time 3 hr
This exam is real heavy on PKI, certificate, AD restoration, how to revoke certificate, publish CRLs, and good amount of stuff from 70-291. Passed it with 880, getting ready for the next one.
Passed with an 863

I had 3 simulations, nothing out of the ordinary. The test is similar to the 70-291 except it has clustering, NLB, and a greataer focus on PKI with certificates. I recommend taking this test after 70-291 since the material is similar. Still know all the material from 291 well however.
Not too bad

with just this and 297 to go i thought this would be pretty much a recap on everything else, and it was to be fair. They hammer certificates, ipsec, vpn and general remote access. 3 sims 4 drag and drops. It can be studied for over a weekend, as i did, but my god you will need to work hard in the exam. One to go.
