SYNOPSIS
Project Management Institute Inc.’s Project Management Professional
certification is meant for those IT professionals who have a solid
foundation of project management knowledge that can be readily applied in the workplace. PMI’s PMP is a high-level, vendor-neutral certification which is a suitable complement to any technology focused certifications. On the job project management experience forms the prerequisite for
this certification.
The PMP certification was started in the 1980s and was most recently
changed in March, 2002, when “the examination blueprint changed to include
an additional performance domain - Professional Responsibility.”
This certification is well suited to IT project managers. The PMP
designation is achieved by passing one conventional format exam that is designed to objectively assess and measure your project management
knowledge. Before challenging the exam, candidates must first
meet specific education and experience requirements and agree to adhere to a code of professional conduct. The PMP certification thus demonstrates the candidate’s ability to effectively manage projects in a structure and ethical manner. In terms of maintaining the PMP certification, those who have been granted the PMP credential must demonstrate an ongoing professional commitment to the field of project management by satisfying PMI’s Continuing
Certification Requirements Program.
